[About Kurume Kasuri]
This is a retro-style belt-driven power loom from the Showa era, consisting of 20 interconnected weaving machines. The Kurume Kasuri weaving tradition was established in 1948 and is renowned as one of Japan's representative traditional pre-dyed woven fabrics. It is characterized by a soft texture similar to handwoven textiles.

[Weaving Characteristics]
For weaving, an old-style loom known as "4cho weaving machine" is used to create checkered patterns. Despite being powered, the weaving process is slow and gentle to achieve a soft texture. Throughout the process, the tension on the yarn is kept loose to avoid stressing the threads. We use unevenly thick yarn called slub yarn, which creates subtle surface irregularities and slight variations in color, resulting in a soft and textured appearance. This allows for strong color contrasts while maintaining a gentle expression.
