A retro Showa-era weaving apparatus consisting of 20 interconnected looms powered by a single motor. Established in the 23rd year of the Showa era, Kurume Kasuri is a representative traditional pre-dyed woven fabric in Japan. It boasts a soft, handwoven-like texture and is characterized by its intricate craftsmanship. With over 30 meticulous steps spanning 2 to 4 months, it is an ideal fabric for those who seek to create unique, meticulously crafted pieces within the realm of traditional Japanese textiles.
[Weaving Characteristics]
The technique of "tatekasuri" or "itagasuri," also known as "itagasuri," is used to express patterns solely through warp threads (tateito). It was historically known as "Yukinko Kasuri" and was woven using indigo-dyed handwoven vertical and horizontal kasuri.
[About the Arare Pattern]
The term "arare" refers to patterns with fine intervals. Unlike prints, tie-dyeing techniques are used to create these patterns. Despite having uniform intervals in the design, the inherent variations in size due to the dyeing technique result in a harmonious arrangement with an overall sense of unity. This versatile, multipurpose pattern is suitable for both clothing and various accessories.
