Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed textile produced using twenty units of belt-driven power looms connected to a single motor, reminiscent of the retro Showa era. It was established in 1948 as the Kurume Kasuri weaving mill. This fabric is a representative traditional pre-dyed textile of Japan, known for its soft and handwoven-like texture, similar to handcrafted work. The production process involves numerous manual steps, taking 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 processes. All finished fabrics undergo a natural drying process with hot water treatment, resulting in approximately 10% shrinkage.
[Weaving Characteristics]
The warp uses a basic 40/2 yarn, while the weft is woven with a combination of 40/2 and 20/1 yarns, creating depth within the soft color palette. Developed by Shimogawa Orimono about 35 years ago, this weaving technique has become a long-standing bestseller, with flexible adaptations to changing times, including yarn usage and color combinations. The fabric's plain weave with depth from the combination of yarns has become synonymous with Shimogawa Orimono.
