Our story revolves around a set of 20 power looms interconnected by a single motor, evoking the retro charm of Showa-era belt-driven weaving machines. Established in 1948 during the 23rd year of the Showa period, we proudly represent the legacy of Kurume Kasuri, a revered traditional pre-dyed woven textile from Japan. Our fabrics boast a soft, handwoven-like texture and are meticulously crafted through a labor-intensive process spanning over 30 stages, requiring 2 to 4 months. If you're an enthusiast seeking to create a unique piece steeped in the essence of Japanese tradition, our textiles are tailor-made for you.
[Weaving Characteristics]
Employing the "tong" technique, where we wind the weft threads around flat wooden slats to weave horizontal kasuri patterns, we deliberately opt for random weaving without pattern alignment. Additionally, pairing two weft threads while weaving creates intricate interplays of black and white dyed kasuri threads, adding depth and shading. We employ two-color warp threads in a pinstripe pattern to amplify color interplay with the weft threads.
Please note the irregular variations in the horizontal kasuri patterns.
