Product description:

[About Kurume Kasuri]
A retro belt-driven power loom setup, consisting of 20 looms connected to a single motor, operates in the style of Showa-era nostalgia. Founded in 1948, Kurume Kasuri Orimoto is a renowned producer of traditional pre-dyed woven fabric in Japan. This fabric embodies a soft and handwoven-like texture, reminiscent of traditional craftsmanship. With a complex production process involving over 30 steps, it takes 2 to 4 months to complete. This fabric is perfect for those who seek to create meticulously crafted traditional pieces.

[Weaving Characteristics]
The "Yoko Kasuri" technique involves creating patterns using the "kukuri" tying technique for the weft threads and weaving with a dedicated shuttle. This technique allows for a high degree of freedom in pattern expression, including floral motifs and polka dots, often referred to as "Egasuri." The process of winding the weft threads onto wooden spools called "tong" and weaving the pattern using a specialized powered loom, with adjustments made as needed, showcases the synergy between the "kukuri" machinery and skilled artisans. It is no exaggeration to say that Kurume Kasuri is the sole producer in the world to inherit the pinnacle of traditional Kasuri weaving techniques into the modern age.

[Hemp Leaf Pattern]
Hemp is known for its rapid growth, straight posture, and robust vitality. It has been a staple pattern for baby clothes. Hemp was considered a sacred plant due to its resistance to pests, attributing it with the power to dispel negative energies. Hence, the hemp leaf pattern itself holds talismanic properties and serves as a charm against malevolent forces. In the realm of Kabuki, this pattern symbolizes femininity, adding a touch of empowerment and femininity.
