About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional Japanese pre-dyed woven fabric produced by Kurume Kasuri Orimoto, established in 1948. This textile is crafted using a retro-style belt-driven power loom setup with 20 interconnected looms, reminiscent of the Showa era. It boasts a soft and slightly handwoven texture, making it a perfect choice for individuals seeking to create unique pieces with a touch of Japanese tradition. The intricate production process involves numerous manual steps, taking 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 stages.
[Weaving Characteristics]
Kurume Kasuri employs a weaving technique known as "tate kasuri," where the pattern is created solely using warp threads (tate ito). This method is also referred to as "ita gasuri" or "board kasuri."
