[About Kurume Kasuri]
The Kurume Kasuri is an embodiment of traditional Japanese craftsmanship, produced by a network of 20 retro belt-driven power looms, all connected to a single motor. Founded in 1948 during the 23rd year of the Showa era, Kurume Kasuri has become a representative example of Japan's renowned pre-dyed woven textiles. Notable for its soft, handwoven-like texture, this fabric involves an intricate manual process spanning over 30 stages and taking 2 to 4 months to complete. It's a perfect choice for those who seek to create meticulously crafted, heritage-inspired pieces that resonate with the essence of Japanese traditional weaving.

[Weaving Characteristics]
This fabric is characterized by "Tategasuri" or "Itagasuri," a technique where patterns are exclusively formed using warp threads. Known as "Itagasuri" as well, the weaving density is subtly adjusted to produce a softer texture compared to traditional vertical and horizontal Kasuri weaves. Ingenious warp arrangement and knotting techniques are employed to craft bold, large-scale arrow motifs.

[Arrow Motif]
The arrow motif, symbolizing the feathers of an arrow, holds significance. Arrows travel straight and don't return after being shot, which led to the custom of gifting arrow-patterned kimono during weddings. The motif's association with "hitting the target" makes it suitable for wishes of success and fulfillment. Arrows represent strong growth, protection, and charms for warriors (male), making them an auspicious pattern associated with warding off evil spirits. The motif is famously used as a protective arrow (hamaya) against evil forces.
