[About Kurume Kasuri]
Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric that originates from Kurume Kasuri Orimoto, founded in 1948. This esteemed workshop operates a collection of 20 interconnected retro Showa-era belt-driven power looms. Known as a representative example of Japanese traditional pre-dyed weaving, Kurume Kasuri is distinguished by its soft and handwoven-like texture. The production process involves numerous manual steps, spanning over 30 processes and taking 2 to 4 months to complete. It's the ideal choice for those who seek to create a meticulously crafted piece with a touch of Japanese tradition.
[Weaving Features]
A distinctive weaving technique employed in Kurume Kasuri is "Tatekasuri," where intricate patterns are created using only the warp threads (tateito). This method, also referred to as "Itagasuri" or "board kasuri," arranges dot patterns within a gradient stripe known as "katsuo-stripe." This classic color arrangement is highly popular within Kurume Kasuri for its timeless appeal.
