[About Kurume Kasuri]
A retro belt-driven power loom from the Showa era operates with a connection of 20 looms powered by a single motor. Founded in 1948, Kurume Kasuri is a representative traditional pre-dyed woven fabric from Japan. It features a soft texture reminiscent of hand weaving. With numerous manual steps, it takes 2 to 4 months to complete over 30 processes. This fabric is perfect for those who wish to create meticulously crafted traditional Japanese textiles.

[Weaving Characteristics]
Utilizing the "Yoko Kasuri" technique, the weft threads (yokoito) are patterned using a tying (kukuri) technique, and the exclusive shuttle is used for weaving. From floral designs to polka dots, this technique offers a high degree of design freedom, often referred to as "Egasuri." The process involves wrapping the weft threads around a board-like wooden pipe called "Tong," aligning them with the pattern, and weaving on a dedicated power loom. Coupled with the presence of tying machinery and skilled artisans, it's no exaggeration to say that Kurume Kasuri maintains the pinnacle of Kasuri weaving techniques in the modern world.

[Tortoise Shell Pattern]
Literal representation of the tortoise shell pattern. In Chinese mythology, the tortoise is associated with Xuanwu, one of the Four Symbols (Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, Black Tortoise), and possesses the ability to convey the will of the gods, symbolizing longevity. The pattern of the tortoise shell divided into four-six segments vertically signifies changing perspectives and shifts in thinking, leading towards happiness. Beyond representing longevity, it is also known as a pattern to enhance prosperity.
