Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven textile that originates from Kurume Kasuri Weaving, established in the 23rd year of the Showa era. This weaving technique involves 20 interconnected power looms driven by a single motor, reminiscent of the retro Showa era.
It is a representative traditional pre-dyed textile of Japan, known for its soft and delicate texture reminiscent of hand weaving. The production process is highly intricate, encompassing over 30 stages and taking 2 to 4 months to complete. This textile is perfect for those who seek to create meticulously crafted pieces with a touch of Japanese tradition.
[Weaving Characteristics]
The "Tategasuri" technique, which solely uses warp threads to create patterns, is also referred to as "itagasuri." The delicate adjustment of weaving density results in a softer texture compared to the traditional Tategoyoko Kasuri. The ingenious arrangement of the warp threads and binding techniques brings forth bold, large-scale arrow patterns in vibrant, colorful shades against a white backdrop.
[About Yagasuri]
The Yagasuri pattern represents the feathers of an arrow. An arrow, once shot, flies straight and does not return, which metaphorically signifies unswerving commitment. It was customary to gift a Yagasuri-patterned kimono during weddings. Additionally, the pattern symbolizes hitting the target, making it suitable for success and achieving goals. The arrow represents the strong growth of a warrior (male), serving as both a symbol of protection and an auspicious motif. It is also well-known as a protective "Hamaya" arrow against evil spirits and has been a prevalent design on kimonos for generations.
