[About Kurume Kasuri]
A collection of 20 weaving looms connected to a single motor, reminiscent of retro Showa-era belt-driven power looms, brings the traditional Kurume Kasuri fabric to life. Established in 1948 during the 23rd year of the Showa era, Kurume Kasuri is a representative pre-dyed woven fabric of Japan. Known for its soft and hand-woven-like texture, it undergoes a labor-intensive process involving over 30 steps spanning 2 to 4 months. This fabric is perfect for those who wish to create meticulously crafted pieces rooted in the tradition of Japanese textiles.

[Weaving Features]
The deep blue color of the warp threads is achieved through the "hakkou-date" fermentation dyeing process. Skilled artisans dye the fabric using indigo vats. The warp threads' rich navy hue is created using chemical dyes. The classic grid pattern is versatile and timeless, making it an easy-to-use design.

[Indigo Dyeing]
Kurume Kasuri's indigo dyeing follows the painstaking "hakkou-date" traditional dyeing method. Its subtle variations in color intensity lend both strength and elegance to the fabric. During the Kamakura period, warriors embraced the practice of wearing a type of indigo known as "kachiiro" beneath their armor. Indigo was valued for its anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, and hemostatic properties. The association between "kachi" (victory) and indigo led to its auspicious symbolism. Its ability to repel insects and snakes made it valuable in mountain and agricultural contexts, and its resistance to skin irritation and excellent heat retention makes it an ideal choice for baby clothing.
